I might have Lois Wright to thank for doing this little Youtube video. Lois, long time friend of the Beale's and author of the book, "My life at grey gardens", has been telling me for months now, that when I do my "Edie" impression, it makes her feel like she's back in Grey Gardens in the 70s. That is quite a trip for BOTH of us. Lois thinks I should have been Drew Barrymore's voice coach for her HBO film. Although she's way off base on that one, I never the less, take it as a compliment. I actually started my Edie imitation back when I knew Edie. I wasn't all that good at it back then, but I do remember one particular time, when Edie, myself, and some friends went out in New York. With Edie right in front of me (and in her voice), I turned to one of my friends and said something like. "my god, I'm just mad about dancing... You understand ! " She just giggled.
Al Maysles got an ear full on his 81st birthday. I called to wish him happy birthday, and decided to sing it much like Edie sang it to her mother in his documentary more than 30 years ago. I also added in my best Edie voice "Honestly Al, for 81, you look absolutely terrific". He was quite amused, quipping "I thought it was Edie's ghost", but this wasn't the first he'd heard of me "doing Edie".
Although we really do have cats named both big Edie and Little Edie, both were trapped feral cats (real mother and daughter), and even after a year, Edith only lets you touch her on rare occasion when she's just in the right mood, and little Edie... Forget it ! You can't even get within a few feet of her (with the exception of meal time) without her running away. Maybe another year or two and she'll come around. No matter how long it takes for these feral cats to come around, it's always worth it when they finally do.
Jack, or little drag feline, who posed as Edie for our little video is about the most laid back creature we've ever had. He had no problems with about 8 takes and retakes of his little sequence.
We were a little disappointed by the loss of quality of this video, once it was uploaded to Youtube, but this is our first attempt, so maybe we'll learn a few tricks by next time. ! Enjoy !!
