AN INTERVIEW WITH ALBERT MAYSLES BY ROBB BRAWN
AM=ALBERT MAYSLES
RB=ROBB BRAWN
RB: AL, LET'S TALK ABOUT THE MUSICAL. WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT IT?
AM: IT WAS OK.... JUST ANOTHER INTERPRETATION. IT'S FICTION, AND FURTHER FROM THE REAL THING.
RB: DID THE POWERS THAT BE CONSULT YOU ?
AM: YES, THEY WERE VERY KIND THAT WAY.
RB: WHAT DID YOU THINK OF CHRISTINE EBERSOLE'S PORTAYAL OF LITTLE EDIE ?
AM: EVERYONE THINKS SHE'S GREAT.
RB: THE MUSICAL MADE EDITH SEEM MUCH MORE CONTROLING THAN THE DOCUMENTARY. DID YOU THINK SO ?
AM: YES, AND WHAT YOU SAW WAS TONED DOWN FROM WHAT THEY HAD ORIGINALLY WANTED TO DO, AT MY ADVICE.
RB: DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE PART OF THE MUSICAL ?
AM: TWO PEAS IN A POD
RB: DO YOU THINK THE EDIES WOULD HAVE LIKED THE MUSICAL ?
AM: I'M NOT SURE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO HAPPY ABOUT IT.
