EDIE ON JACKIE AND THE KENNEDYS

For those who don't know the relationship between Little Edie, and former First Lady, Jackie Kennedy: They were first cousins. It had always seemed odd to me that in the Documentary, neither of the Edies mentioned Jackie or the Kennedys ?? Perhaps the Maysles edited this out. I'll have to ask. Edie didn't talk that often about that side of the family, but what she did have to say was pretty interesting. Only once, did she have a bit of a "rant" pertaining to Jackie, but I really don't think Edie would have wanted that repeated.

Edie, along with other family members attendend President Kennedy's inauguration. "We stayed in a very nice apartment". Edie told me that her brother had taken pictures that she still had, but had no idea where they were. " I don't know where anything is". Other than the one little rant mentioned above, Edie never really bad mouthed her cousin, but was certainly no fan of her assistant Nancy Tuckerman, who I understand wrote a book about Jackie. "That lousy Nancy Tuckerman ! She had a report from some carpenter who saw the kittens" (the one's Edie was attempting to hide) In quite a hysterical imitation, Edie mimicked herself and Nancy on a phone call. "They made such a gastly picture about Jackie. The Greek Tycoon. Did you see it ? A friend of mine took me. I shouldn't have gone. Do you think she was that brutal to Mr O ? The part about Jackie hitting her husband and dissabeling him in the marriage bed ! "

"Somehow I don't think she lost her mind over Jack Kennedy. Why don't I think that she had shock therapy after Jack Kennedy's death ? You don't do those things unless you LOVE ! That comes from passion. Jackie's passionate about money. It's much better boys to be passionate about money.. But she missed out.. maybe ? We don't know."
